Terry Fox Event 2018

Friday September 28 was a special day at Reston School.  Along with a visit from author Sigmund Brouwer, it was the day of our annual Terry Fox Event.  We spent time at our morning meeting discussing what the purpose behind our run is today.

The money raised through donations goes to support cancer research.  I shared with the class how I was diagnosed with cancer 3 years ago and because of the research, I am healthy and back teaching again!  We wrote ideas on stickers to wear of who each of us would be thinking about as we went around Reston.

Grades 2 - 12 then spent the afternoon at our wonderful Memorial Park where a variety of activities were enjoyed by all.

Keep an eye on school news for our final fundraising total for 2018!

Fall Art

This week, we took on a Fall Art Project.  The first day, everyone made the trunk of a tree with brown construction paper and glued it onto a white paper.

The next step was leaves and thanks to Gregory and his family, we had a bagful of paper towel rolls.  We were able to use them as stamps with paint to create a forest full of unique trees on our back bulletin board.

Welcome to Room 21!

The Grade 2 class of 2018-2019 has been busy this week in their new classroom space in Room 21.  Families will be able to visit on Thursday, September 13 at our open house and book fair but here is a preview.  You may want to share this blog post with others who would like a peek in our room. (Hi Mom!)
The Daily Schedule is posted to keep track of what's coming up next and our calendar and Planner Page (in red) will reflect what needs to be written in student planners.
Our Math Board is a place to refer when we are thinking about numbers during Numeracy Time.

Our corner called The Chill Zone provides a quiet place to stop to think about things and calm down.
Our first Science Unit about the Three States of Matter has the Grade Twos very anxious to get learning.  The liquids we will use in one investigation are on top of the filing cabinet in the photo above.

The Technology Charging station is beside buckets of markers, glue and scissors.  All are used as learning tools in our classroom.

It's been a fantastic week and we are looking forward to a great year ahead in Room 21!
