The Grade Twos were very excited to welcome a special visitor, Mrs. Betty Sawatzky, on February 27, 2019. After entering a colouring contest put on by CJRB Radio in Boissevain, we were thrilled to be one of five classes to win a prize! With support from the publisher Friesen's, each student was given a copy of the book Whiteout: A Winnipeg Jets Story by Holly Preston.
Before starting to read, Mrs. Sawatzky told us about her job at CJRB and did an interview with Ms. Simms about I Love To Read month. She used a real microphone but didn't actually record it. Then the class helped to make a radio commercial for "Simms's Auction Company"! We thought about catchy phrases and sound effects and were able to help with recording the commercial.
Then we used sound effects to help Mrs. Sawatzky read the story to us - "Go Jets Go" and the jet flying sounds added to the fun. Everyone also received a red bag from The Tim Horton's Brier that will take place in Brandon next week for being the first school to enter the contest.
What an exciting way to wrap up a month of reading activities at Reston School. We DO love to read!
